Whereas the Keystone badge only had two iterations (one from 1960-63 featuring no serial number and an update from 1964-69 with serial number found at the top or bottom of the badge), the Blue & Olive badge went through a number of modifications from its introduction in 1969 through the mid-'80s.
These badges also adorned the aluminum Acrolite snare from 1994 to the mid 2000s, when the drum featured a Black Galaxy Sparkle finish. One last thing to bear in mind: a drumset featuring sequential serial numbers tends to be higher in value than sets with era-correct badges and hardware but non-sequential serial numbers.
HELPFUL HINT: Use the search feature on your internet browser to go through these listings if you're wanting to check out a particular flute by maker or by serial number! ************************ IMPORTANT NOTICE! IMPORTANT NOTICE! IMPORTANT NOTICE! Sad to have to add this one, but recent happenings require it. SHOULD you be contacted by someone saying they "have a lead" or they've maybe "talked with someone who has your instrument" and tells you this person maybe "understands that it was stolen and is willing to return it to you if you forward the shipping costs to them"... (in the most recent example we've heard of, this person happens to be in Africa - but the same scam can be run just about anywhere)... Do NOT ASSUME they are telling you the truth. Should you receive such a contact by anyone - first thing to do is require photos be sent making it easy to identify the real article is indeed in their reach... odds are, you won't hear anything back from them at that point (which tells you something...). The key thing is: keep your head about you, should you receive such a contact, and be extremely cautious in any return contact. Do not hesitate to involve your local Police. We're here to help you too. It really is true, though... we really are all in this together. ************************ NEW: June 1, 2010. We are both honored and incredibly delighted to get to share the saga of one such stolen flute's journey and how it found its way home by virtue of both the dedicated work of its owner, and the professionals this person worked with along the way! You can read all about it here: The Saga of a Flutes Adventure
Penzel & Mueller were a German/American manufacturer of clarinets in Long Island N.Y. with the firm being active from 1899 through to the 1950s. Their clarinets were considered among the finest quality professional models made in the USA. This top of the range clarinet stamped "Artist" is in very good condition for an instrument which probably dates to the 1940's, and is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. There is no damage to the wood which is fine, dense grained, Grenadilla. The German Silver keywork shows a natural patina commensurate with the age of the clarinet. The matching serial numbers are 16835. The bore is an extremely large 15.2mm with a reversed flare in the upper joint, as the start of the upper joint is 15.4mm +. In common with most traditional German designs there is very little bore flare at the bottom, which results in a typical German robustness and focus to the sound. These clarinets were much favoured by American Jazz players, apparently Woody Herman played an Artist model prior to WW2. The instrument has used tan leather pads throughout, all are sealing well. The clarinet comes with 2 barrels, an original of 66.5mm and one of 64mm. The case is the original in much used condition, with a broken handle and interior wear to the case lining. The supplied m'piece is a student model provided for play testing. This clarinet plays and tunes very well with a standard French bore m'piece, i.e. Vandoren.
The CF Horns also feature a secondary set of serial numbers to reflect their uniqueness as an instrument. Each horn will be play-tested by Carl to ensure that serial number 001 plays the same as serial number 100. 2b1af7f3a8
