Mac OS X 10. 6 Snow Leopard was released in 2009 and introduced the Mac App Store. Apple used to sell Snow Leopard for $19.99, but Apple no longer offers it. You can find downloadable copies of Snow Leopard and Leopard on the Internet Archive and the reviews on the Internet Archive pages have tips on how to create USB installers from the downloads.
Technically, you can also re-download the OS X Lion installer this way too, though it would be hard to imagine a scenario where a user would want Lion over OS X Mountain Lion, let alone OS X Mavericks.
you will be able to do an upgrade using this methodon your macs as long as they have core 2 duo ornewer intel processor 2gb of ram or more 8 + gb of harddrive space free I would recommend 40gb + free forbest performance and even though you have downloadedlion using a Mac other than you are installing it on the installerwill still insist you have to be running 10.6.6 or laterand will not proceed with the upgrade unless you are running10.6.6 or later
If you have the foresight to let Time Machine perform a full backup of your Mac before running the Lion installer (but after it has downloaded from the App Store) then you can skip re-downloading the 4Gb file. Just go to Time Machine, visit your Applications folder, find the TM backup with the Lion installer (Install Mac OS X Lion) and restore it. Ta-da! ;)
Because OS X Recovery is mainly used for installation purposes, it has to download all of the necessary files whenever this is performed. This requires both an internet connection and a great deal of time. For any Mac technicians needing to perform regular upgrades or reinstalls of OS X on many different Macs, an external boot drive can be loaded up with a full installer that is usable on multiple Macs.
Depending on the age of your Mac, you may not be able to download older installers for OS X if your Mac is relatively new. I was unable to download OS X Lion on my Retina MacBook Pro, instead greeted with an error message.
The installers for both OS X Lion and Mountain Lion include a Disk Image (DMG) file that can be restored to a volume and turn it into a fully-bootable installer that doesn't require an internet connection to download additional files.
Download the OS X Lion installer from another Mac's App Store using your Apple ID. Once you downloaded the installer you can create a bootable flash drive using /Applications/Install OS X Lion.app. Ars Technica has an in-depth guide on how to do that: How to create a bootable, backup Mountain Lion install disk
Apple's Lion licensing is more than liberal. Individuals can legally install one purchased copy of Lion on all of the Macs they own or control. It's strictly honor system -- no install keys or online activation. You can buy Lion once and download it as often as needed from any Mac. The Lion installer app can be copied from Mac to Mac using your LAN or a flash drive. Just drop the installer into the Applications folder and double-click to install the OS.
I got this resolved finally. I used RVM to uninstall ruby and re-install ruby version 1.9.3. This allowed me to run 'bundle install' without a problem. I checked that all gems where loaded (gem list). However my rails application could not locate the postgres socket file at this point. The same problem is detailed here. Rather than locating the postgresql.conf file, changing permissions on it, and editing it I just uninstalled my current version of Postgres and downloaded the latest One-Click installer from PostGres. When I ran the installer again it detected the other PostGres installation and updated it. This updated the configurations for me and all is well again. 153554b96e
