Da Brat, who began rapping with her father as a child, has a number of other musical influences. She was a big fan of Tupac Shakur, especially his albums 2Pacalypse Now (1996), All Eyez on Me (1996), and The Rosebud [EP] (1997). She also liked the older music of Prince and Michael Jackson. Besides those artists, she also liked Mase, another favorite artist who she met when he came to her hometown of Richmond, Virginia for a concert in the early 1990s. Other artists she listened to include Michael Buble, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Lopez, and Madonna.
Da Brat is also a fashion icon. She has been seen on the cover of several magazines such as Vibe, Vibe, Touch, and The Source. She was also the cover girl of Vibe magazine during the summer of 2001. She appeared on Vibe along with a few other musicians in its Jazzy Glamour issue (August 2002). In the fall of 2001, she appeared on the cover of Believe magazine in its Fashion Week Issue. She has also appeared on the cover of Sassy magazine along with rapper 50 Cent and T-Boz of TLC. She has also appeared on magazine covers for Essence, Essence, and Interview. After the publication of her book Confessions of a Rapper's Daughter in 2002, she had a number of other covers. She was on the cover of Yahoo! magazine in its February 2002 issue. Also in 2002, she was on the cover of the February issue of Vibe magazine and on the cover of In Touch magazine along with 50 Cent in its February issue.
